top story this morning. the tragedy in newtown, connecticut. president obama traveled to new town to come for the families of those killed at sandy hooke elementary. he also took part in an emotional memorial service for the victims last night. we will now go witlive with rene mars mr sh from new town. >> the nation continues to mourn. the first funerals for two of the students will be held today. >> we will never forget. on

used to live will be shutdown and closed indefinitely. they said that they will still be considered a crime scenes definitely for months. he stated that it will be up to the town officials to decide what to do with sandy hooke middle school after the investigators have cleared up. they stated they're not sure whether not the school where never open again ripple >> we have been mired in the press conference where the lieutenant spoke about the latest on their investigation. >> we are holding both crime scenes the school and the home and definitely. we will hold these places until we have completed our work. this is not to read anything into it is just common practice. we have a hold on

with guns in their trunks waited hours to turn in guns for cash saturday afternoon in oakland. it was one the most successful gun buyback programs ever held in the city with hundreds of people dropping off their firearms. for each gun turned in, the owner received $200, no questions asked. the oakland police say that this was one of the most successful gun buyback programs ever held in the city. several hundreds of guns were turned in and many still moved by friday shooting in newtown, connecticut. >> the s f p d received a call around 3:00 a.m. this morning for reports of a home invasion robbery. this

incident occurred on the 1600 block of slow boulevard. three suspects into the home and tied up the family robbing them of many belongings. the victims were not injured-that's it is unclear how many fell members live in the home and it is not clear their ages. the three suspects are being described as black male adults that were wearing masks. the s f p d is asking the public for help if they haven't any information that may be useful. >>

carry it >> public divorce paperwork have just been released by officials, showing that the mother of the connecticut school shooter, adam lanza had the authority to make all the decisions regarding his upbringing. the divorce was finalized in september of 2009, when lanza was 17. the divorce agreement gave nancy lanza $265,000 in alimony last year. the papers make no mention of any mental health and illness regarding asam lanz a. >> one of the victims was a teacher and we take a moment to remember the teacher and her heroic efforts to save the children. the family stated that they're not

surprised by what she did. >> she would not hesitate to save anyone. especially children. she love those kids more than life. she would deftly put herself in front of the midday for any reason. it does not surprise anybody that new the key. >> in this time of tragedy many bay area families are taking the time to appreciate momma's been with their loved ones. parents say the tragedies like these remind them about how grateful they are for the precious holiday momma's with their kids. >> i cannot even imagine what these families are going through. so to be here with my family i am really

the shooter, adam lanza and his mother. >> connecticut authorities say people are posting and accurate information on social media sides in the wake of the school shouldn't tragedy. they say that there are people who are posing as a shooter, mimicking the crime scene and the criminal activities. federal authorities are taking these issues seriously and will treat them as crimes. authorities said those who are called posting fake and threat imposed will be prosecuted. >> here in the bay area the san francisco unified school district is assuring parents that staff will be on hand for students and like a fried is tragic shooting. many of the bay area school districts are doing the same.

not that he is leaving that up to the parents to talk to their children that. they say the they do have policies about that. i will bring you sound from the principal. i'll let you know what the school district here is doing so that the children here are safe. >> the effects of the shooting are also here in the bay area and throughout the walls of congress. >> the topic of gun control and not even mentioned during the presidential race and today the issue is front and center. and this is a typo weapon that was used in the sandy hooke elementary school shooting. a bushmaster ar-15 this weapon was banned on the federal assault weapons ban. which was enacted in 1994.

it expired 10 years later in 2004. congress was unable to, with enough votes to renew it. this weapon is banned in california and connecticut and actually had its own version of the federal assault weapons ban in place. the maker of this weapon bushmaster made modifications to it so it was in fact sold legally to the shooter's mother. california senator dianne feinstein is calling for congress to pass an even stricter assault weapons ban. >>
